A spectacular Shanghai International Circuit hosts the penultimate race of the 2008 Formula One World Championship and it’s easy to see why the track is the most expensive facility costing a cool £120m to build. Maybe the developers could recoup some of the costs incurred by taking advantage of the free bets available from both Betfair and Skybet?!

Opened in 2004, the Shanghai International Circuit has wowed many a driver and spectator. The track itself is shaped like the Chinese symbol “Shang” which means “above” or “high” and the 56 laps are extremely demanding on both car and driver due to the 16 winding turns separated by three high-speed straight sections and these offer great overtaking opportunities. Other symbols are evident throughout the facility with the team’s buildings arrange much like pavilions in a lake to mirror the famous Yuyan-Garden in Shanghai.

In 2005, Shanghai hosted the final Grand Prix of the season and newly crowned World Champion, Fernando Alonso, won the race which also sealed victory for Renault in the constructors’ championship. The Chinese Grand Prix was also the venue of racing legend Michael Schumacher’s last win before retiring from racing at the end of the season.

In lasts years event Ferrari dominated proceedings thanks to a win from Kimi Raikkonen and a podium finish from team-mate Felipe Massa. However the performance of the weekend had to be Sebastian Vettel’s drive, finishing in 4th place after starting all the way back in 17th on the grid!
